The Micro-Library
2019
The Micro-Library was a joke turned reality over several weeks of summer 2019. Big thanks to Mitchell, Hayleigh, Pear and Channing for their help stripping and painting microwaves, consulting on design, and keeping the energy alive!

Microwaves were acquired from the South Portland Transfer Station. The attendants were more than happy to let us dig through the appliance pile and drag away the ones we wanted. Since the build, one microwave has leaked, and one had it's plastic door damaged (only glass for future builds!), but the rest have lived through a full Maine winter and kept their books dry. It's been a big hit in the neighborhood. The bottom few contain mostly kids books. The vertical microwaves are great for over-sized books.

It still needs a sign. I'm picturing something grand in neon with flashing lights. We'll see what materials and ideas come our way. I've got a couple extra microwaves sitting in the yard right now. I may need to build an addition this summer!
